THE STORY Lets see, I started this whole weight gain a bit before I graduated from high school. That's when I found the loves of my life, Tri and FOOD! Tri and I started going out in our senior year of high school, we were a trim and lovely couple and we still are, well, not the trim part anymore. hehe. I remember how we would always go out for lunch at fast food places, prerabbly McDonald's, and then for dinner, we'd go out to a restraunt. This would happen every other day! Very bad habit to develop. Now, two years later, its haunting us and because of that eating out habit, we both gained quite a bit of weight. Tri gained about 15 lbs. and I gained 25 lbs. These past few months, we have decided that we should only go out to eat for special occasions such as if a friend comes down from Toronto or on our anniversary only. So far we've stuck to our plan but the extra weight won't go away. And since we are an 'old couple,' as most of our friends say, we usually just stay in on the weekends and watch movies on t.v. and eat junk food, which hasn't helped us lose any weight. So now this is where I start to think of a way to motivate myself, Tri, and also others to lose the extra weight that won't go away! I'm an avid Internet surfer and came across many personal sites about people trying to lose weight. I became inspired by these people and wanted to do something for myself and BOOM! I wanted to make a site to motivate others as well as myself too! And that's how this site was born!
THE GOAL I will post my updates in my journal section, which will hopefully motivate myself and others to achieve their goals to a healthy lifestyle. I'd like to combine a fitness routine with healthy eating habits since my fitness routine now, consists of waking up, going to work (8 hours of sitting in front of the computer is not exactly good exercise), and then coming home and plopping in front of the t.v. My eating habits are nothing to brag about either, I usually skip breakfast but have lunch and I snack often, which is good but it's not fruits and veggies, it's more like candy bars and other sweets. You can see what I need to work on. My goal was to lose 30 lbs when I first started this journey at 150 lbs and now I'm down 15 lbs! It's been year, the progress is slow but taking it a day at a time will be a benefit for me in the future because I'm slowly developing a good habit which will stick with me longer.
THE PLAN I will eat smaller portions, and not skip any meals like I have before No more meals past 9 p.m. because I end up going to bed right after and that's a big no-no. Use my elliptical machine 3 to 4 times a week for 30 mins. I will cut back on my calorie intake. (I am currently taking 1485 calories in my body per day so I want to limit that intake down to 1200. To figure how much calories you're taking in per day, please scroll down.)

Below is a chart to help guide you to your 'ideal' weight. Remember, this is just an 'ideal weight' chart so don't panic. Hereditary, muscles and your bone mass play a big role on your weight also. I believe this is an old chart from 1997 so it's not an updated one. If you know of a current one, please e-mail me and let me know. Thanks. |

Want to know how much calories you are currently taking in per day? To figure out how many calories you are consuming a day, multiply your weight by 10 and then add your weight. Here's my example: 135 lbs x 10 = 1350 + 135 lbs = 1485, so therefore, I am taking in 1485 calories per day on average. If I want to lose weight, I have to lower my calorie intake. I have decided to try and lower my calorie to 1200 grams of calories/day. That's cutting off 285 calories/day for me, whew, that'll be hard but I'll do it slowly, day by day. Of course I won't do it all at once. If you are happy with your intake of calories/day, but still want to lose weight, try working out. The more you work out, the more calories you'll burn off the food you eat/day. But before you decide to do anything about your diet, please consult your doctor as my information may not be as accurate as your doctor's advice. |

FUN FACTS & TIPS
Did you know that to lose one pound off your body, you have to burn 3,500 calories? Phew! That's a lot of sweatin' on the treadmill!
Eating slowly and chewing your food throughly will prevent youself from getting seconds. Many people eat faster than their brains can say "I'm full."
When you are watching t.v., do some sit ups, push ups or lift weights to keep yourself busy. It's not like you're going to miss anything on t.v. right? A big no-no...don't eat in front of the t.v.! Why? Cuz you don't know how much you're eating until your stomach blows up like a whale!
Watch out for 'Light,' 'Lean' or 'Fat Free' products. This doesn't mean that it's safe to overdulge yourself. You can eat 'Fat Free' candy all day and still not lose any weight.
Try not to eat two hours before going to bed. If you do, the food will just sit in your stomach while you sleep and turn into extra weight. |

The road has been tough, with twists and turns that I hadn't expect in this journey. It has been a year since I started this crusade to a healthier me and I believe I accomplished a lot. From 150 to 135 lbs was a slow but hard earned process, although I haven't reached my goal weight of 120 lbs, I'm halfway there which only pushes me to work harder and resist temptation with all the summer desserts floating before my eyes. I sometimes give in but I don't overdo it,. I have learned to know my limits with sweets and fast food, which are my weaknesses but I also learned that you don't deprive yourself of enjoying a yummy sundae once a week because everyone deserves a treat. = ) The road may be a rough ride but never be rough on yourself. You are beautiful no matter what size you wear, just believe in yourself and achieve your best. |
